The broad edge shows Arabic letter-numeral, Latin transcriptions and Roman numerals. Uncommon and very interesting are the zodiac-pictures of the rete-ecliptic, based on antique tradition. The drawing of Codex 196 has no starpointers, but the reconstruction shows 24 stars after a medieval list. Two plates are constructed for climats 4 to 7 (latitude 36°, 41°, 45°, 48.5°) with 6°-almucantars and unequal hours. The back contains ecliptic and calendar-circles. 0° Aries = 16th March. The alhidade (double-rule) is constructed as a sun-dial for unequal hours.
